In 1486 Plymouth Municipal Records contain an account of a payment to "Sir John Sapcott" for

"vjs lovys of suggr" when the town made its benevolence.

Sir John married the widow of Fulke Bourchier, Lord Fitzwarren who survived him and gave the window in Bampton Church, St Michael and All Angels.

She was either Edith or Agnes, daughter of William Windigat.  John Sapcoat may have been a widower?

The window shows coats of arms of local families of the time, including the Shapcott’s,

Fitzwarren’s, and the Dinham’s - a fine example of the glassmaker’s art, dated about 1495.
